A veteran culinarian of the Grand Rapids area for over 39 years, Chef Whalen has worked at various locations throughout the city and metropolitan area. This includes the famous 1913 Room, Gibson’s Restaurant and most recently almost 20 years as the Executive Chef of the Honey Creek Inn of Cannonsburg.
Educated thru G.R.C.C. culinary arts, the Culinary Institutes of America in both New York City and Napa California, Chef Whalen is certified thru the world renowned American Culinary Federation as a Certified Executive Chef and has been awarded numerous restaurant dinning awards thru-out the area including Chef of the Year and Chef Professional of the Year.
Currently, Chef Whalen is bringing his years of culinary experience, expertise and style to the newly formed, soon to be world famous, “57 Brew Pub And Bistro” in Greenville, Michigan. Focusing on local and destination customers, the menu reflects Bistro Pub Grub with a flair. Hard wood fired pizzas, steaks, burgers and fish, along with classic and some unusual sandwiches are part of his creations. From scratch soups, and chili, as well as garden fresh salads and a full array of “what goes good with our home brewed beer appetizers” are among some of his repertoire. All the while utilizing local farms to help sustain Michigan’s vital economy.
